Neighborhood Association

The mission of the association is to promote the correction of neighborhood problems brought to the attention of the association by its membership, thereby promoting an atmosphere of unity, cooperation, openness, and friendliness within the neighborhood.

The North Country Club’s boundaries start at Stratford Road and Mill Road, First Avenue to Hanover, Sherbrooke to Berkeley, and Chadwick Road to Stratford Road ending at Mill Road.  This area is the sub-division built by Guthrie May called North Country Club Sub-Division.  Most homes have three bedrooms and are pre-fabricated, ranch-style built in the 50s.  Today, there are 660 of these houses still looking good.

The neighborhood was mostly people from 30s to retired, well educated, and of average income.  The people were busy with children and jobs, but had well-kept houses and lawns.  There were nice trees and shrubs, but the trees on Concord Boulevard had grown quite large and were poorly trimmed.  The sidewalks, curbs, and streets were in bad shape and needed to be repaired or replaced.

North Country Club Neighborhood Association (NCCNA) was organized in 1999.  A meeting place was found and a name was chosen. United Way was helping organize neighborhoods at that time.  Flyers were hand-carried to the neighborhood inviting everyone to our first meeting.  The turn-out of about 40 was good. United Neighborhoods of Evansville was established soon afterward with about 25 neighborhoods including North Country Club Association.

Our association participates in many community events such as the Great American Clean-ups. In 2007, our association was awarded Best Adopt-A-Spot of the Year by Keep Evansville Beautiful.  We maintained that spot for twelve years. We also removed dying trees and planted new ones on the boulevard. 

West Sector Crime Prevention Officer Bill Braun attended our first meetings and we have continued to participate in National Night Out where we provided cotton candy for years.  Twelve of our members trained for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

We have held picnics at Iglehart Park and host an annual Christmas Dinner.  Halloween on the Boulevard is a special event that we continue each year.  We set up a tent and give away candy treats, balloons, cider, and hot chocolate.
